Pastor Zachary Guyton, born and raised in southern New Jersey, is the ninth of ten children of Pastor Horace and Mrs. Vivian Guyton.
He received a B.A. in Economics from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania in 1987, and was employed in facilities and distribution management for several companies. Earlier formative jobs included working on the back of a garbage truck as a teenager, and two college summers with the Architect of the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Pastor Zach and Sherene McFarlane married in 1994, just before moving to Columbia, South Carolina for him to pursue a Master of Divinity at Columbia Biblical Seminary. During his time there, he worked at Coca-Cola, and was involved with at-risk youth and prison ministry. He graduated in 2001, and was called as Pastor of Bethany Evangelical Free Church in September of that year.
Son Caleb joined the family in 2003.
In 2009, Pastor Zach added the title of Executive Director of Bethany Center for Champions (BCC) to his job description. BCC is the non-profit ministry arm of Bethany Church, serving as an after-school safe haven for the youth of West Orange, to meet the spiritual, social, physical and academic needs of the community.
